Organizing the pre-season parent meeting

Every good season starts with a parent meeting.  During this meeting, the coach and parents discuss goals for the season, how much practice/training time will be needed, how many tournaments to attend, whether to organize a fund-raiser, etc.

New in 2012: No "team credit"

In past summer seasons, the Club donated $200 to each team's account.  For the Summer 2012 season, the Board did not budget for that $200 donation.  Please adjust your team budget accordingly.

Where to have your team meeting

There is no rule about where to have your team meeting.  You can use your home, but many teams use the VAA Fieldhouse.  To learn more about the Fieldhouse and how to reserve it for your meeting, look at the left menu for the tab marked "VAA Fieldhouse".

Date Conflicts

One of the most important things to do before the MYSA coaches meeting is to gather any game night conflicts from the player families.  Contact the parents on the team to determine if there are any dates that will require game rescheduling due to significant player absences. Parents should check school calendars for band/choir concerts and school field trips, vacation plans, church activities, camps, etc. The coach or manager should bring these dates to the meeting and coordinate reschedules with the other teams that day.

Managers, the best technology for recording conflicts is paper and pencil.  We recommend that you write down conflicts on a standard calendar grid, using pencil.  We all can see conflicts on a calendar grid easier than we can on a spreadsheet list, and using pencil makes it easier to change conflicts when parents send you an update.

Game Nights

When MYSA schedules the games for a league, it only uses either Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday.  To learn which nights are used for your team's league Click here.

We recommend that you consider scheduling your practices on the same weekdays that MYSA will use for your games.  So if you MYSA game nights are Monday/Wednesday, have your practices on Monday/Wednesday.  This will help your families, because it makes the schedule more predictable.
