How to Reschedule a Game

Once the league schedule is received at the MYSA Coach's Meeting, you have two weeks to reschedule games for any reason.  Requested reschedules within this period must be granted by the opposing team.  Both teams are expected to work together to find a mutually agreeable date. After the initial two weeks, the only allowable reschedules are for weather-related cancellations (see below for weather cancellation instructions).

  1. Any conflicts should be immediately brought to the opposing team's attention.  Work with the opposing coach/manager to select a couple of dates that work for both teams.

  2. Once date options have been identified, the field needs to be secured. If it is a home game, in 2012 you might be able to reserve the new field time using the Google Doc.  If you have trouble with that, contact Rand.Stenhjem@charter.net.

  3. After you have received a new field and time, you must also contact our referee coordinator.  To do that using a pre-formatted email, click here

  4. The home team is responsible for completing the online game reschedule request.  The log-in information is in the MYSA packet received at the coaches meeting.  The opposing coach must access the online game reschedule request and accept the new date/time.  Click here for the MYSA Online Game Rescheduling Instructions.

  5. If it is an away game, the opposing team is responsible to coordinate within their club and complete the online reschedule. You will simply need to confirm acceptance.

Game Cancellations due to Weather

After the initial two week window after the MYSA Coach's meeting, games can only be rescheduled due to inclement weather.

If the game is canceled due to weather prior to arrival at the field:
  • Remember that only the referees can cancel a game due to questionable weather.  Even if the coaches agree to cancel, both teams may be subject to an MYSA fine for forfeiture if they do not show up for a game or decide to leave a game in progress before the referee has called it.  If the weather is too dangerous to be on a field or to travel in, contact the home team's Referee Assignor to attempt to call the game ahead of time.
  • The only exception is for city-directed field closures.  Determinations on field conditions are made at about 4:15pm. If the city closes the fields, the Club will (1) send an email to all coaches and managers, and (2) update the home page of our website.  If you are offline and want to check directly with the City of Apple Valley about field closures:
    • Call 952-953-2399
    • Press #1 for Weather/Cancellations, then
    • Press #2 for Youth Athletic Fields
  • If your scheduled field is closed, notify the opposing team and contact and your own players right away.
  • Work with the opposing coach/manager to select a couple of dates that work for both teams.
  • Contact the Fields Director once you have some options for reschedule.
  • Click here for the MYSA Online Game Rescheduling Instructions.

If the game is canceled due to weather after teams are at the field or if the game has started:

  • If the referees are at the field, they should be paid, whether the game has started or not.
  • Work with the opposing coach/manager to select a couple of dates that work for both teams.
  • Contact the Fields Director once you have some options for reschedule.
