Valley United encourages coaches to pursue coaching education. The Club always reimburses 100% of the cost of the MYSA Symposium, the MYSA Y-module, and the US Soccer Federation E-license. The club makes a case-by-case decision about D-licences and higher.
Here's the procedure to follow to guarantee reimbursement:
1) Identify the course you plan to take, and the full cost.
2) Request approval from our treasurer: treasurer@vusc.org
3) After approval is received, register for the course and pay
4) Upon completion, send receipt to treasurer for reimbursement.
Every year in February, MYSA organizes a symposium at the Minneapolis Convention Center. It is typically held on a Saturday, and runs from 9am to 4pm. During that time, coaches can attend 5 "classes" on different topics. It is like attending "soccer college" for a day. Lunch is provided, and about 10-15 Valley United coaches participate. Entry fee and lunch are paid by the Club.
For information from the MYSA website about the "classes" in the upcoming symposium, click here.
If you would like to join the VUSC delegation, send an email to Coaches@vusc.org
Valley United encourages all coaches to pursue formal training. MYSA organizes courses that are known as "Y" modules, or "E licenses" or "D licenses", mostly offered during the November-March period, but they are only announced about 6-8 weeks before the course happens, so check the schedule a few times during the winter.
MYSA Y module
This is a four-hour course designed to help first-time coaches understand the basics of teaching soccer to young kids.
USSF E License
Twenty hour (approximately) course, normally scheduled for a Fri (evening) Sat & Sun. The course consists of theoretical and practical instruction on the teaching of techniques and tactics of small-sided games between 1v1 and 6v6. The emphasis will be to build on the player's technical development by applying tactical concepts with game situations. All applicants will be assigned pre-course work which will be required to be completed prior to attending the event; these assignments will be sent out approximately ten days prior to the course starts.
All applicants must be 18 years of age or older to attend the course.
US Soccer D License
Thirty-six hour (approximately) course typically held over two full weekends. The course consists of theoretical and practical instruction on teaching the four components of soccer - technique, tactics, fitness and psychology as they relate to games. Coaches are required to pass two written tests, oral test, and a practical field test.
The MYSA website will refer to "member" pricing. When they say member, they mean "Valley United", so when you register please get the "member price" by indicating that Valley United is your club.
